Girls Director & Instructor
Danielle Doherty is a skilled forward from Newton, Mass. who played D1 hockey for the Boston College Eagles. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and Human Development in May 2014 and hold's her master’s in Special Education.
While at BC, she went to the Frozen Four in 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2015; won the Beanpot Championship in 2011 and 2014; captured the Hockey East Championship in 2011, and won the Hockey East Regular Season Title in 2014 and 2015.
Prior to matriculating at BC, Doherty played one year for Newton North High School and then four years for Lawrence Academy, where she was varsity hockey captain and All-League selection in 2009-2010. Earlier in her playing career she won two national championships – in 2007 and 2008 – with Assabet Valley. An all-around athlete, Doherty also played varsity field hockey from 2006-2009 (2007 and 2008 Honorable Mention, 2008 New England champion and 2009 All-League and team captain), as well as varsity softball (2007 Honorable Mention) and varsity lacrosse.
While excelling on the ice – and the field – Doherty has enjoyed a rich athletic career. But she’s also suffered some dramatic lows, tearing the labrum in her right hip while at BC and being forced to redshirt for a season while rehabbing. Unfortunately, just as she was getting back to full strength, she suffered another debilitating injury, re-tearing her labrum while also tearing the labrum in her left hip. A second - and third - surgery meant another lost season of college hockey. Worse, she lost a year of eligibility since redshirting allows athletes to make up for only a single lost season, not two.
Still, she kept a positive attitude, attended games, watching from the stands. It afforded her a unique perspective, one that translates well to her coaching career. She could see from a distance what worked, what didn’t, the total picture. And she understood firsthand how to overcome extreme adversity. She brings this hard-won experience, keen hockey sense and boundless enthusiasm to the program.
