Digit Murphy, retired 21 year legendary Head Coach of the Brown University Bears, continues her role as founder and Director of the Digit Murphy Hockey School and the RI IXpress elite girls’ hockey program. Murphy was the first female coach to surpass the 200-win mark and in the 2006-07 season she became the 'winningest coach in Division I women's hockey history with her 300th win. Murphy has led Brown to a record of .500 or better in 14 of her 20 seasons and in that time her program has garnered five Ivy League titles, six ECAC regular season or tournament titles and four National Championship appearances. Murphy's players have been named Ivy League Player of the Year eight times, ECAC Player of the Year three times, Ivy and ECAC Rookie of the Year once. Seven of her players have been Olympians for the US, Canada and Japan and four have been named all-Americans. Murphy's commitment to her philosophy "Our kids learn life lessons through athletics" is further demonstrated by her players' academic successes, including 15 first team All-ECAC selections and 27 first team All-Ivy selections.

Her team's 28-6-3 record in 2003 earned her the 2002 New England Sports Writer Coach of the year Honor. Aside from leading the Bears for the past 19 seasons Murphy continues to be involved in coaching at the national 15/16 development camps and as a head coach at the 2004 Lake Placid Olympic Festival, where Brown University was represented by 8 of the 60 players. In 1992 she was the assistant coach for the US National Team and for five summers she served on the Jr. National Coaching Staff at Lake Placid, helping to develop future Olympians; she also was a member of the 1998 US Olympic Hockey Team Selection Committee.

Coach Murphy is a consistent presence at the USA Hockey National Development camps both as an instructor and coach. She has provided classroom lectures to youth coaches on a wide range of topics from Defensive Systems to the balance of family and work. She continues to coach the teams from the U14 through the U19 Divisons at the summer development camps. She is an active committee member for the NCAA, having served on the Rules Committee as well as the Family Balance Initiative where she is always the advocate and mentor for the many female student athletes and young coaches.

Murphy is a 1983 graduate of Cornell University and four year letter-winner for the Big Red Women's Hockey Team. In 1994 she was inducted into the Cornell Athletic Hall of Fame as the third leading scorer in school history, and in 2004 she was inducted into the International Scholar Athlete Hall of Fame for her accomplishments as a Coach and as a student-athlete at Cornell, where the team's MVP award is named after her. She has also held various broadcast reporting roles, including USCHO web and radio broadcasts, the 2004 Women's Ice Hockey World Championship Games and as color analyst for the 1998 Olympic Games in Nagano, Japan for the Turner Network.
