Kids love to play hockey and enjoy new learning experiences, but the typical 4-5 hours of daily on-ice practice offered by traditional hockey camps is just too much for them, and for most kids their age, to handle for multiple weeks. That’s why we’re offering an exciting alternative!

We have put together a total sports camp for kids that incorporates hockey as well as other fun activities such as Dodgeball, Lacrosse, Kickball, Whifle ball, Kan-Jam, Ladder Ball, Basketball, Capture the Flag, obstacle courses and more. Players will enjoy between 7-9 hours of on-ice instruction by our knowledgeable and dedicated staff. We’ll augment time on the ice with a trip to Canobe Lake. (If you choose not to have your child join our expedition he or she can take the day off. Subtract $25 from the cost of the camp.)

Our staff is young, energetic and every instructor has extensive experience in multiple sports. Your kids are sure to have a blast each day, learning while having fun. Our sports camp is certified and licensed by the local board of health, our staff meets all requirements of Massachusetts camp regulations, and our directors are certified in CPR and First Aid. Walpole, MA 6-17 yrs Mon Aug 20th - Fri Aug 24th $395 $650 n/a GMS819 View Details + Sign-Up

This camp is designed to focus on the Forward and Defensemen aspects of the game, while at the same time teaching the game of hockey. Our Game Situation drills focus on every aspect of each position. During the on-ice and one hour classroom talks each day, we'll help players understand their specific position and teach reaction with confidence. We'll start off covcering things such as power skating, forward and backward strides, proper body positioning, explosive forward and backward acceleration, high-speed starts, pivots, turns and stops, and puck control.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

Forwards will also focus on drills that help the players recognize and react to the play in front of them, with and without the puck. We'll Cover: winning battles all over the ice, attacking the triangle, applying power moves, screening and tipping in front of the net, odd and even-man rushes, protecting the puck, how to properly check at the right time

Defensemen will also focus on drills that help recognize and react to situations that are presented to them. We'll Cover: how to properly angle an opponent, gap control to keep the pressure on the opponents, defending at the net, understanding how to use the net to your advantage, point positioning to create opportunity, defending odd and even-man rushes, pinning an opponent to the boards, properly checking at the right time.

The players participating in the camp will be going against players in their age group in confrontational drills. This makes the drills feel more game-like and help the players develop their skills, reactions, and confidence.

Our Total Skills camp features creative and progressive drills that stress proper skating, shooting, and hockey techniques. This camp covers offensive and defensive strategies taught through a variety of challenging drills. Daily off-ice conditioning sessions focus on increasing speed and heightening agility, while chalk talks cover proper positioning.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

Skating and Edges: Including proper body position, correct use of inside and outside edges, balance and agility so players can get the most power out of each stride.

Stickhandling and Crossovers: Stickhandling technique, including proper hand placement, head position and location of puck on the stick. We also cover crossover technique, demonstrating the most efficient use of edges to generate maximum speed and power.

Power Turns and Backwards Skating: Proper body position and edge control while executing power turns so players can quickly and efficiently change direction. Backward strides and crossovers are also covered.

Pivots and Checking: Instruction on transitions so players can smoothly move from skating forwards to backwards or backwards to forwards without losing speed. We also introduce checking – both how to safely give and receive a check – so young players are familiar with this skill once checking becomes a regular part of their game.

Game situation confrontational drills: We teach the game of hockey. Our “Game Situation” drills will focus on the Forward and Defenseman aspects of real game play. Defenseman – angling, gap control, net play, support drills, at the point, odd and even man rushes, pinning and checking. Forwards – winning the battles, attacking the triangle, power moves, tipping, odd and even man rushes, puck protection and checking. These drills will help each player understand the game and teach reaction with confidence. 4 hours of ice each day and 1 hour class room talk.
